Her path toward law was shaped by an internship at Canton Municipal Court and a conversation with an exoneree from the Ohio Innocence Project, experiences that sharpened her resolve to ensure the system works as it should.

My decision to pursue a career in law began with frustration at the injustices I saw in the legal system. Stories of wrongful convictions and misconduct made me question whether the system was truly serving its purpose. That perspective became personal when I met Derrick Jamison through the Ohio Innocence Project at Tiffin University. Hearing how he spent twenty years on death row for a crime he did not commit, after evidence was withheld, left a lasting impact on me. His story strengthened my commitment to protecting the rights of others and ensuring the system works as it should.

My perspective deepened during my internship at Canton Municipal Court. I observed judges, attorneys, and court staff who treated individuals with fairness, respect, and professionalism. Watching a jury return a not guilty verdict in an OVI trial reinforced the importance of due process and the responsibility legal professionals carry. I also saw how specialized dockets such as Veterans and Recovery Court help individuals rebuild their lives while still promoting accountability. These experiences showed me that the legal system can protect communities while also creating opportunities for change.

As a first generation college graduate and now a first generation law student from Louisville, Ohio, I have taken on the responsibility of funding my legal education myself. This path has required discipline, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose. It has also strengthened my determination to build a career that I am proud of.

My goal is to serve in a role where I can protect people’s rights, keep communities safe, and uphold the integrity of the judicial system as it was intended. I want to become a prosecutor who seeks justice, not just convictions, and ensures fairness in every case. I also have long term aspirations of serving as Ohio Attorney General, where I could make a broader impact by protecting the rights of citizens across the state.

The Lawyers of Tomorrow Scholarship would help ease the financial burden of law school and allow me to stay focused on these goals. More importantly, it would support my commitment to building a career centered on service, integrity, and protecting as many people as I can. I am determined to use my legal education to make a meaningful difference and to uphold the principles of justice in every role I pursue.
